The Amphicar 770 was a unique German-engineered vehicle built between 1961–1968, famous for being the world's first mass-produced amphibious car. Equipped with a 4-cylinder Triumph engine, it could reach speeds of about 70 mph on land and 7 knots on water — earning it the nickname “the car that swims.” With fewer than 4,000 ever made, the 1966 model represents a rare blend of playful design and innovative engineering that continues to capture the imagination of collectors and enthusiasts today.
To showcase this one-of-a-kind vehicle, I designed a dedicated auction campaign that included a custom landing page, homepage banners, social media ads, and promotional emails for both the preview and live phases. The visuals emphasized the Amphicar's dual personality — balancing nostalgia with novelty — while the copy highlighted its rarity and craftsmanship. The result was a polished, cohesive campaign that not only celebrated a remarkable piece of automotive history but also reinforced PropertyRoom's ability to present distinctive, high-value auctions with style and impact.
01 — Project Context & Goals
A rare collector car for a specialist audience
The goal was to give a single, highly unusual vehicle the stage it deserved: introduce collector car enthusiasts to a 1966 Amphicar 770, explain why it matters, and move them from curiosity to registering and bidding before the auction closed. Every surface had to work for two audiences at once — seasoned collectors who already know the model, and casual browsers discovering an amphibious car for the first time.
02 — Design Strategy & Visual Hierarchy
Land and water, in one frame
The landing page leads with a full-width hero of the car itself, followed by a short headline and a single bid call to action. Below the fold, the hierarchy steps down into the story: the car's history, its land-and-water specifications, and the dual-propeller drive that makes it swim. Supporting copy is kept to short, scannable blocks so the photography — and the car's unmistakable silhouette — does most of the persuading.

03 — Deliverables & Channels
A multi-channel auction rollout
Each asset shared one visual system so a collector who saw a banner, an email, and a story card would recognise the same campaign instantly.
- 01Landing page — hero, vehicle story, specification grid, and register-to-bid calls to action in a clear top-to-bottom hierarchy.
- 02Responsive digital banners — homepage placements sized for desktop and mobile, with the headline and button kept clear of the vehicle on every crop.
- 03Email blast — a structured layout for collector car enthusiasts: hero image, short rarity story, key specs, and a single bid button.
- 04Social story cards — vertical formats for the preview, live, and ending-soon moments of the auction.
04 — Production Execution
Built to stay consistent at every size
I set up the campaign in Figma with shared type styles, colour tokens, and image crops, then finished photography and compositing in Photoshop and vector elements in Illustrator. Building preview and live versions from the same master files kept messaging aligned across channels and made it fast to swap headlines and calls to action as the auction moved from announcement to final hours.
